Found Objects

Fiber Arts Magazine did a small article about Maggie Leninger who is knitting tiny sweaters and leaving them in public places to be found.  She has an attched label asking the finder to put a value on the object by donating to the National Coalition for the Homeless.  She started this last May, and they have seen a rise in their donations.  Other knitters have joined her, so who knows how many are out there doing this, but I wanted to be a part of it too.  This is the first one I placed, which is just outside Savvy Skirts in the Harbour Shoppes.  Maggie asks us to photograph it, then tell her why we chose the place.  I chose this one because I have a connection to the store where they sell my jewelry and textiles.   Maggie sends the knitters the labels, which I've tucked up into the sweater so it won't get wet when the planter is watered.
I used to do volunteer work when I worked full time, and now that I have more free time, I haven't done a thing.  I hope to find something that sparks my interest this year.  I'll know it when I see it....  But for now, I'll just knit teeny sweaters and leave them for people to find.
