April showers means more time for art!

Last week was a busy one and since I rarely take time to blog, but have been documenting with my camera, thought I could sit and at least label where I've been and with whom.  On Friday, after my Zumba class, Matthew and I met Julian, Sara, and the 3 kids at Tres Amigos in HMB for dinner.  I hadn't seen them in awhile since I've missed a couple of evenings when they've gone for dinner and I've been elsewhere.  They're still looking for a place to live, so hopefully something will turn up this week. 



Lincoln has the BEST appetite and it shows!




Then I headed to Laura's for Bad Art Night.    I really enjoy the energy of this group--everyone works on something different...whatever inspires her.  Shannon, Laura, and Sally have been making quilts to send to Japan for a couple of weeks.  Here's Laura with one of hers.
 Beverly was just starting a wire sculpture that night, so I documented her process throughout the evening.

My dear friend Kelly McGrew came from over the hill to join us for the first time.  She's working on a crochet project, but I managed to get her picture as she was heading out the door.

 I've worked on knitting a felted hat and flower for Penny:

And I've also done some Kumihimo braiding and even some simple beading when there.  I have an idea for the next one which started brewing just today.  It has to do with old cigar boxes......


Lately I've been working on a series of necklaces using either baroque shaped freshwater pearls or gemstones in large chips.  Last week, I sold three pieces!  I was very excited since I only took them to two meetings.  The one below, which sold Thurs. night, is yellow jasper or agate--it would be nice if I could remember those details, but it's not meant to be.

  I've decided to carry my camera with me more often because you just never know.  Last week I had a fun afternoon in a friend's art studio in Princeton, and as I was leaving, Connie noticed two pineapples sitting across the street.  I know it sounds like the beginning of a joke...Two pineapples were sitting across the street from an art studio and one says to the other....  So, no joke and they weren't talking, at least not to us.  Where did they come from and why did someone just leave them there?  So odd. Didn't take them home; didn't eat them.  Just left them there for others to also ponder.    The next day, I'm on my way over the hill and there's a woman, maybe in her 30's, behind me in a Mercedes.  At the stop signal to turn left onto hwy 92, she pulls off her shirt and is left in what looked like a black bra.   The light changed before she could maneuver into another shirt, so onward she drove all the way up 92.  She p...

TRIPPING ON TRIPS

 I hate cobblestone streets. I've always hated them...the first time in the 80's watching Parisian women in high heels walk naturally across them as I gingerly made my way in my sensible shoes. I've never understood how to maneuver them gracefully.  That being said...  Here we are in Ajijic, Mexico for the first of 3 trips in the next year for Matthew's extensive (and far less expensive) dental work. The town is supposed to be charming, though we got in around 6 pm yesterday so couldn't see much. We walked to the closest restaurant the hotel told us about for dinner around 7:30, and what I noticed were the cobblestone streets and broken sidewalks that ended abruptly. It's Mexico...it's always like this, especially when we first arrive. It takes a little getting used to--the streets often look like crap, but once inside the walls of La Mision   a beautiful decor greeted us....tables surrounding a dropped stage area where 2 men played stringed instrume...

Last Day, Last Meal, Fogward Bound

 Put some miles on the car yesterday going to Lahaina--more touristy shops and very hot walking around, then headed up to Kula to the surfers goat farm. Had a "flight" of 6 goat cheeses all well-flavored. Saw the goats, but with it being about 100 degrees, didn't opt for going into the fields to see them up close.  We splurged on dinner or lunch, well, both actually, at Mama's Fish House, considered one of the best and certainly one of the oldest restaurant on the island. I had been here about 25 years ago or maybe 30 with a friend. Beautiful setting, very pricey.  I couldn't eat a huge meal again (most were about $45-$85 the latter being a whole fish), so shared crab cakes with Matthew: It came on this pretty plate, so I added it after we removed them to our own plates. Salmon roe on top. Quite good.  Then I had the ahi sashimi salad, which was perfect. Matthew had a huge meal, so I got a taste of his salmon, mahi mahi, poke, and wild boar. I passed...
